In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described The Park like this:
PARK, a sub-district in Nottingham district and borough, Notts; containing Standard hill and parts of the parishes of St Mary, St. Peter, and St. Nicholas. Pop., 6,095. Houses, 1, 221.
