=== Description ===
{{Click|Image:MI_ORP.png|Michigan Online Genealogy Records}}

The County was named for a Native American name meaning "place of the rock". However, an alternative theory is that it derives from a lake and a county in New York state, which are said to bear the name derived from a Mohawk Iroquoian word meaning either "clear water" or "meeting place". The County is located in the north-central area of the state.<ref>Wikipedia contributors, "Otsego County, Michigan" in ''Wikipedia: the Free Encyclopedia'', "[://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otsego_County,_Michigan wikipedia] </ref>

County Information[edit | edit source]

Description[edit | edit source]

The County was named for a Native American name meaning "place of the rock". However, an alternative theory is that it derives from a lake and a county in New York state, which are said to bear the name derived from a Mohawk Iroquoian word meaning either "clear water" or "meeting place". The County is located in the north-central area of the state.[2]

Tax Records[edit | edit source]

Michigan tax records complement land records and can be used to supplement the years between censuses. Because only persons who owned taxable property were listed, many residents were not included in tax lists. There may also be gaps of several years in the tax records of some counties. For more information see the Wiki page, Michigan Taxation.
