Mansfield is an extinct town formerly in Lamoille County, Vermont Genealogy and Chittenden County, Vermont Genealogy. Mansfield was first surveyed and established prior to settlement in 1763.[1][2] The earliest settlers in Underhill (west side of the mountain) arrived 1786, so the west side of Mansfield would have been settled later than that.[3] The western third of Mansfield on the west side of the peak was annexed to Underhill, Chittenden County, Vermont Genealogy (Chittenden County) in 1839. The eastern two-thirds portion of Mansfield was voted by its citizens into Stowe, Lamoille County, Vermont Genealogy (Lamoille County) in 1848.[2]
Records. The 1815-1844 Mansfield town records, and deeds 1815-1851, are preserved at the town of Stowe, Lamoille County, Vermont Genealogy. A microfilm copy is available from the Family History Libray on film 28468 Item 1 (town records) and film 28468 Items 2-3 to 28469 (deeds). Also, try searching for some of the records of western Mansfield residents in records of Underhill, Chittenden County, Vermont Genealogy.
