VHS to DVD Converter
The equipment will capture the video and store it on a DVD. In order to have a successful session, here are some things to know:
-For full size VHS tapes, rewind the tapes or set at start point before coming.
-Expect about one hour of video content during a session with half hour of setup/wrap up. Plan to complete all efforts within the scheduled time period.
-Do not bring tapes with commerical content or copyrighted material, only family-related videos.
-The captured video file will be in .mpg or .mp4 formats and will be transferred to the patron's personal DVD to take home. A two-hour video will need about 16GB of USB storage for the .mpg or .mp4 format. An MP4 file is a compressed video file, that can be put on a thumb drive. A VOB is a file that is usually larger and best saved on a thumb drive with more than 16GB. A VHS or DVD can also be made into an MP4 file.
-The video tape can be split into smaller topic-based segments during the conversion such as for a birthday party, vacation, graduation, etc. The result is small subject-based videos that can be uploaded to social media, loaded on a phone, or easily shared with family and friends. The digital video files will provide the best option to play and share video memories. If needed a DV can be created during the conversion.
-Please bring blank DVD discs (DVD-R types).
-You'll need a DVD for every two hours of VHS video.

Copyright Notice:

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, U.S. Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. The person using this equipment is liable for any infringement.

Before your visit:

1. Remove photographs from albums and any sticky tabs if necessary. If older pictures are mounted on cardboard, they can be scanned separately on the flatbed scanner.

2. Pictures should be sorted by size and direction. They must be fed into the scanner in groups of the same size to avoid jamming the scanner. The photos are inserted into the scanner face-up with the top of the photo at the bottom. After sorting by size, sort again by direction. In order to save time, it is best if portrait-oriented pictures are separated from landscape-oriented ones.

3. The batch scanners are capable of scanning both sides of a photo or document simultaneously. It is suggested that photos or documents with content on both sides be separated out into their own group.

4. A flash drive is needed for storing the digitized images created. It is recommended that a 16GB or larger flash drive be dedicated just for scanning documents and photos.

5. The Kodak software allows you to restore, crop, and separate sheets of pictures into individual pictures.

6. Trained staff are always available to help patrons use the scanners.

Please plan on the last 10 minutes of your reserved time to save your photos. Be sure you finish up on time so that the person following you can have their full time.
