History[edit | edit source]

From the formation of the Caistor Poor Law Union,Lincolnshire it provided for residents of Grimsby replacing the earlier Grimsby House of Industry. However the rapid growth of population in Grimsby necessitated the formation in 1890 of a separate Poor Law Union. The new workhouse opened in 1894.
