Prior to the formation in 1837 2 town workhouses existed :
Poulton le Fylde.
The Fylde Poor Law Union was formed on 27th January 1837.

Constituent parishes included:
 Bispham, Lancashire Genealogy, Bryning with Kellamergh,LancashireBlackpool St John, Lancashire Genealogy Carleton (Great and Little), Lancashire Genealogy , Clifton with Salwick within Lund, Lancashire GenealogyElswick, Lancashire GenealogyFreckleton,LancashireGreenhalgh with Thistleton, Lancashire Genealogy, Hardhorn with Newton,Lancashire, Kirkham, Lancashire Genealogy, Layton with Warbreck, Little Eccleston with Larbreck,  Lund, Lancashire Genealogy , Lytham, Lancashire Genealogy, Lytham St John, Lancashire Genealogy, Marton, Lancashire Genealogy, Medlar with Wesham, Mythrop, Newton with Scales, Poulton le Fylde, Lancashire Genealogy, Ribby cum Wrea, Lancashire Genealogy, Singleton, Lancashire Genealogy, Thornton, Treales Roseacre and Wharles, Warton (near Kirkham), Lancashire Genealogy, Weeton and Preese Weeton, Lancashire Genealogy, Westby with Plumpton, Whitechapel, Lancashire Genealogy St Michael on Wyre, Lancashire Genealogy.
Later Additions (from 1894): Blackpool, Fleetwood, St Anne's on the Sea South Shore Holy Trinity, Lancashire Genealogy.
