West Sumatra is located on the west coast of the island of Sumatra. It covers an area of 42,012.89 km2 (16,221.27 sq mi). Islam is the predominant religion here. Its capital city is Padang.
West Sumatra is home to the Minangkabau people.[1] The name of Minangkabau comes from two words, Minang (win) and kabau (cattle).
West Sumatra is led by a governor, elected for a 5-year term.
