Comments on new pages[edit source]
Kurt, We welcome new contributors and see that you like to help clean up the Wiki, which we also welcome. I have added comments to several of your pages, along with templates. I hope you will understand the reasoning behind the comments, etc. after you read the explanation of what is and isn't acceptable in the Wiki. Because the Wiki is fully open to the public, not just LDS people, certain material is not acceptable. Also, we cannot use material that promotes a paid site, such as World Vital Records, even thought it is a great site and the video they've produced is very well done. We also can't use the site as a place to talk about particular families. This site is meant to be a place where people can learn about how to do research. I hope I haven't offended you in any way. Please let me know your thoughts on these subjects.Lynda 17:19, 8 November 2011 (UTC)
In patrolling I came across all the pages you cited issues with and your comment. I wanted to let you know that she is not deliberately changing all the links. I have talked to her about this and apparently as she is trying to change the categories on pages the replace text procedure she is using is scattering the replacement text all over the pages. We will roll all the changes back so the pages are in their original state. Thank you for catching these.

Yes, It was a "Replace text" issue. I agree with you that it doesn't work well. I hate what it sometimes does to breadcrumbs and links. We are in the process of reorganizing the Wiki categories, which involves moving hundreds of articles to new categories. It is certainly tempting to use "Replace text" when so many articles have to be moved. But as you say, it is tricky and can really backfire. We have a couple of team members working on rolling back the changes and making the desired changes manually. Thank you for your offer to assist us, but I think it will be all cleaned up tonight. Like! I'll go back and check on them during the week to confirm all is well. Thank you for your responses.
