Yorkshire Parishes[edit source]

I notice that you've done a lot of work on the Yorkshire page. We received information from a gentleman in Yorkshire with the following information.

"Ancestry has recently posted several links to christening, marriage and burials for 130 parishes in West Yorkshire. You can search BY PARISH, and BY YEAR! This becomes a wonderful resource for parish registers that are not available on films in the Family History Library. I found many of my ancestors in the parish of Keighley, Yorkshire."

I'm wondering if this information should be on the Yorkshire page with a link to Ancestry. Would you let me know if you agree and if so, I have the email address of Mr. Moore for further information. averyld 19:47, 6 February 2013 (UTC)

To all FamilySearch Wiki Contributors: An apology is in order...[edit source]

By way of introduction, my name is Ben Bennett and I’ve recently joined the FamilySearch team as the product manager for the Wiki and Forums. Put simply, my job is to ensure that your experience, as contributors and users of the Wiki and Forums is excellent. To this end, an apology is in order.

As you know, we recently implemented a new user ID/sign in process for the FamilySearch Wiki. As we implemented this new system, I personally heard from many of you. You shared with me problems that were occurring for you as you tried to sign in, edit or do other things that resulted in lost work, lost time and frustration for you, our key contributors and users. Please accept my sincere apology for the poor performance and poor experience associated with the Wiki during the past few weeks. Please also accept my commitment that the FamilySearch team will learn from this experience and do all that we can to prevent situations like this in the future. To this end, I wanted to share with you ...CONTINUE

Dear Phillip Dunn,

On the pages of England Merchant Marine, England Military Records, and England Websites, we see that you have changed the England to British and put a delete on the old page. In order to delete these pages we need to move the old URL’s so they go to the new page. Our problem is that the Navboxes at the bottom of the page. Who ever created the box set it up so that everything on the page goes to the England title? We can do redirects to help this problem or go back to the England title. We would like your input on this so we can get the pages deleted.

Thanks from the wiki:[edit source]

The FamilySearch Wiki:FamilySearch Research Wiki is delighted to let you know that the "Ireland Emigration and Immigration" page you helped create has become a FamilySearch Wiki:Featured Articles, highlighted on the FamilySearch Research Wiki of the Wiki, and will remain there for seven days. Thank you for your excellent work to help others quickly access records. Your contributions are appreciated and continue to assist others in finding their ancestors.
You have made a tremendous difference in research!

Featured Article nomination:[edit source]

The information you presented in your article on "Compelling Reasons Why The Irish Emigrated" certainly expanded my knowledge of possible reasons why my own ancestors may have left Ireland.  Your article is well-organized and interesting!

I was wondering if there are any resources you might add or links of some kind that would lead users to references to the information given or to emmigration or immigration information?  If so, would you include them or any other relevant information that might further researchers' success.  Your list of further reading might already include much of this.

As a member of the Wiki Featured Article Committee, I would like to give you the opportunity to add whatever resources you deem necessary before recommending your article for inclusion as a FamilySearch Wiki:Featured Articles.  Thanks for your consideration.  Thank you as well for all the quality pages you have contributed. Glo

Canterbury is in Kent not in Suffolk[edit source]

Fortunately Canterbury has been dragged back from Ipswich in Suffolk Comprehensive List of Parishes and Churches within the City of Canterbury

Better to move a page than recreate page under different name[edit source]

Hi Phillip,

I noticed that you blanked the page Furnival's Inn, London Genealogy and then recreated it as Furnival's Inn, London Genealogy. If you want to rename a page it is better to move it. By doing so, the page history is kept in tact and a redirect is created so that any page linking to the old name will link to the new page name. --Steve (talk| contribs) 18:21, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

Blank Page
[edit source]

Your assistance is requested. The following Westminster Abbey or Collegiate Church of St Peter, Westminster, Curtain Road, Middlesex, Glasshouse Yard, Middlesex, and Brentford, Middlesex, bland pages were found in the Wiki.
We would like your guidance on how to deal with these pages. Do you wish to delete or redirect these pages? Thank you so much for all the work you do on the Wiki.  Sandralpond 20:51, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

Sister Pond:

Thank you for asking. Yes, please delete those bland pages. If this is something I can do, I'd be pleased to do so, as there are several more pages which will be deleted as the correlation between County Middlesex and London City/County is a bit complex and there are more places which appear in one, that shouldn't and visa-versa. PB Dunn

Thank you so much Phillip.  If you want you can click on my name and put messages on my page the system will then allert me.  Also if you sign with the ~4 times it will do the same for you.  Will check with you later.Sandralpond 15:13, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

York & Ainsty Page[edit source]

Phillip, you recently blanked this page.  However, there are many pages linked to it.  There is a page with the correct title but only page links to that one.  We can Undo the change you made and re-direct to the correct page.  Please let us know if that is what you want done.  Whenever a page is blanked, the links need to be re-directed to the correct page or we'll have a lot of broken links.averyld 17:37, 24 July 2012 (UTC)

The Featured Article Committee would like to thank you for the above article and we would like to consider using it as a Featured Article at some time in the future.  We do have a problem with the "box" under websites that says it needs expansion.  We would like you to consider doing the expansion, or remove the "box".  We thank you once again.  The Committee.     10/24/12

Sudbury, Suffolk[edit source]

I thought it was a good model to follow. I created a borough or town page and put a link to all the parishes in it. A person could go to a town page and read about the place and view links to all the parishes in that place. You dismantled that idea. Ipswich and Bury St Edmund's are like that as well. Go dismantle those places as well since Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds are not parishes. We can't can't have town or borough pages on the wiki. Lets not even talk about it. Suffolk Church Records[edit source]

I noticed that you made a reply about this topic at Talk:Sudbury All Saints, Suffolk. I noticed that you talk about Manchester and all its chapelry's and Derbyshire. I only focus on Suffolk, so i wouldn't know anything about those places or counties. I see you have some church records data for Tannnington and Laxfield. I can go an clarify the record dates that you have left for those parishes; but it would be helpful if you would enter clear and complete information. For East Suffolk there is a clear run of bishop Transcripts from 1813 to 1875. Some end before 1875; the indexes are all online. Tannington - From 1662 to 1812 there is only one entry, yet you have the registers going to 1728. Laxfield - You have the marriages starting in 1771, yet from 1771 to 1812 there are only 8 entries. The term 'part.' does not really seem sufficient to clarify the vast differences in coverage. People who use these records may not realize that for tannington between 1660 and 1812 in a virtually impossible; to find any records on familysearch or in Laxfield prior to 1813 it is highly unlikely that they will find any marriage record.

What I have noticed is that the familysearch volunteers seem to go from county to county, not staying in anyone place, just long enough to put this that or the other. In some cases not having any regard for whats already on the page and not trying to incorporate or complement existing data. Rather a cut and paste operation.Donjgen 01:10, 3 April 2013 (UTC)

Blanked Pages[edit source]

I am on the support team and have been watching your work. If the delete template and comment on the reason for deletion is used, we will review the comments for the reason the article needs to be deleted. It is better to redirect a page than deleting it. We appreciate that you are cleaning up the Wiki but we must be careful not to lose accurate information. Pages of concern are:,_Somerset,_Cumberland,_All_Saints_and_St_Nicholas,_Suffolk

Blanked Pages[edit source]

Thank you for all the work you are doing. I saw you blanked:,_Durham. Could you please give a reason why this page was blanked. With blanking a page we lose information. It would be very helpful if when you do deem it necessary to blank a page to give a reason. This will help us a lot.

England Church Records[edit source]

Please see my comments on the England Church Records talk page regarding our recent disputes over the content of this page. I'd appreciate a reply. Thank you, Alec van Helsdingen. --Av85647 (talk) 09:43, 12 April 2018 (UTC)

Please see my proposal for a compromise for this page --Av85647 (talk) 20:36, 17 April 2018 (UTC) and my clarification, including a Sandbox version of my proposal. --Av85647 (talk) 07:22, 18 April 2018 (UTC) After receiving no objections or comments I have implemented the compromise.
