Ellsworth, Lynn

 Biography: [edit | edit source]

My name is Lynn Erwin Ellsworth. I was born in 1936 in Washington, DC, raised in and around Los Angeles, California and several places in California and Arizona. I filled a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Uruguay and Peru, 1956 to 1958. We have six children, 27 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.

Education and Work Experience:[edit | edit source]

I graduated from BYU in 1963, married Jamie from Mesa, Arizona. I taught High School Spanish and American Government in Eagar, Arizona, 1963-1965. I became a computer programmer in 1966 and kept with that vocation until retirement in 2001. Since then we've served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in The Bronx, NY, (Spanish-speaking), New Zealand, Auckland and St George, Utah. At present (2018) I am serving a Church-Service Mission at the St George FamilySearch Center. I've been teaching Spanish Indexing and Spanish Research.

Etymology of my name[edit | edit source]

My great uncle was Lynn Whiting, the Whiting family was from Lynn, Massachusetts in colonial times. Erwin was from my father's first cousin, Erwin Curtis. Later, as a sailor, he was lost when his ship, the heavy-cruiser USS Indianapolis, was sunk by Japanese torpedos right at the end of WWII. The surname Ellsworth is said to have been derived from the residence of its first bearers at a place of that name in Cambridgeshire, England. It was originally spelled Eelsworth, meaning "Place of the eels", being situated on a stream which was at one time famous for its eels. Some Ellsworth name variations: Eelsworth, Elesworth, Elsworth, Ellesworthe, Ellesworth, Elswort, Elesworde, Aylsworth, Ayleworth, Aylworth, Elworth, Ellisworth, Elsworthe, and Ellsworth.
