  • Tomás de Rocamora founded the Villa of Our Lady of the Conception of Uruguay on June 25, 1783.
  • In 1784, the council of Concepción de Uruguay fixed its jurisdiction between the Uruguay and Gualeguaychú rivers, the Gená stream, the Gualeguay river, the Lucas stream and the Yeruá stream up to the Uruguay river.
  • In 1820 the department of Uruguay was created.
  • The department of Uruguay has a population of approximately 101,000 people. [1]
