Collections[edit | edit source]

  • The Susanville Family History Center has a collection of microfilms and microfiche on indefinite loan from the Family History Library in Salt Lake City.  We have many of the US Federal Censuses of California on microfilm.  We have Lassen County resources on microfilm including censuses, cemeteries, and probate records.  We also have a collection of reference books, and family and local histories.

Databases and Software[edit | edit source]

  • This center has access to the Family History Center Portal page which gives free access in the center to premium family history software and websites that generally charge for subscriptions.

Hardware and Equipment[edit | edit source]

  • We have four computers, a printer, two microfilm readers, and a microfiche reader available for use.

Resources in the Local Area[edit | edit source]

  • The Lassen Historical Museum is located at 105 N. Weatherlow adjacent to Roop's Fort.  It features antique logging equipment and tools and contains pictures of Susanville dating back to the mid 1850s.  It has family histories and family pioneer pictures.  It also contains Native American artifacts.
  • The Historic Susanville Railroad Depot and Visitors Center at 601 Richmond Road is located at the head of the popular Bizz Johnson Trail.  This restored railroad depot has historic photographs of the railroad and logging trains which in bygone days rolled through Susanville.
  • The Westwood Museum at 311 Ash Street in Westwood (26 miles west of Susanville) displays artifacts and pictures from the town during the heydey of the Red River Lumber Company, which from 1913 to 1956 was the largest pine lumber mill in the world.
  • Margie's Book Nook at 722 Main Street has many historical books written by local historians.  The Book Nook also carries maps and atlases of the area.
