Brief History[edit | edit source]

Stowe was chartered on June 8, 1763.  Maria Von Trapp ("The Sound of Music") came here after escaping from the Nazis  because it reminded her of her native Austria. Lying in the shadow of Mount Mansfield, Vermont's highest peak, Stowe is known as "the Ski Capital of the East".  The population was 4,314 at the 2010 census.  [1]  [2]
