  • With the Independence of Central America was one of the original municipalities of the department of Sololá.
  • 1838 was integrated as part of the State of Los Altos.
  • This was reincorporated to the State of Guatemala in 1840.
  • Since August 12, 1872, the town of Santa Cruz Quiché has been the head of the newly created department of Quiché.
  • During the Civil War of Guatemala, especially in the 1980s, it was used by the Guatemalan Army as a base of operations to combat the Guerrilla Army of the Poor.
  • The municipality of Santa Cruz de Quiché has a population of approximately 91,000 people[1]
