History[edit | edit source]

Säter is one of the 290 municipalities of Sweden in Dalarna County, central Sweden and its seat is in Säter.
The present municipality was created in 1971 with the merging of the former City of Säter and two neighbouring municipalities. Originally called Dalsby fjärding, then called 1638 Säter, then from 1642 - 1951 it was called Säters Landsförsamling. In 1636 this parish was created from Stora Tuna. On May 8, 1642 Säters stadsförsamling was created from this parish and on January 1, 1952 this parish was combined with Säter.
