Known Issues[edit | edit source]
Question 1[edit | edit source]
Question 1: I’ve signed in, so why are the images still unavailable?
Answer 1: FamilySearch has limited rights, granted by the record custodians, to publish images from the Russia, Lutheran Church Book Duplicates, 1833-1885 collection for viewing online. Images for this collection are only available for viewing to members of the sponsoring organization (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints).
FamilySearch, however, has other resources which are available to all researchers. These online records, and many others for this area, are available on microfilm which can be viewed at the Family History Library or some FamilySearch Centers. Please call ahead to verify that the center has the films.
If you have a Church account and are not able to view images after signing in, it may be due to a registration problem, not an image access problem. Please call 1-866-406-1830 in the United States, or contact firstname.lastname@example.org. Please include a brief description of the problem and steps taken thus far to resolve the issue.
NOTE: The records for this collection consist of individual volumes that frequently group smaller communities together into the same bound copy. For example, the records for Novgorod also contains records for Olonets, Vologda, Kostromo, and Jaroslavl'. When you move from image to image, the browse path will change to reflect the community for the record associated with the image, even though you may start from a different locality.
This is attributed to a shared digital film, and the final waypoints are considered to be wandering breadcrumbs; that is, some final waypoints flip back and forth between different localities. Until the problem is resolved, you will have to read each image to verify the proper locality. Citations specific to this known issue are addressed below:
Question 2[edit | edit source]
Question 2: Some of the final waypoints for St. Petersburg > Tsarskoe Selo > Pawlowsk: Pawlowsk and St. Petersburg > Tsarskoe Selo > Carskoje Selo: Carskoje Selo have identical listings for Volume year range: event type (volume number), and the film numbers are the same. Which locality do the records belong to?
Answer 2: Per the Catalog Film Notes found by using Keywords (beta) searches: “Pawlowsk” and “Carskoje,” both localities have the same film number and description: Film 1883187, Item 2: Volume 828-14/76 Births, marriages, deaths 1853 (p. 1-12). As a result, some records are Pawlowsk with Carskoje Selo and vice versa.
Question 3[edit | edit source]
Question 3: Some of the final waypoints for St. Petersburg > Iamburg > Jamburg: Jamburg and St. Petersburg > Gdov > Gdov: Gdov have identical listings for Volume year range: event type (volume number), and the film numbers are the same. Which locality do the records belong to?
Answer 3: Per the Catalog Film Notes found by using Keywords (beta) searches: “Jamburg” and “Gdov,” both localities have the same film number and description: Film 1895614, Item 3: Volume 828-14/258 Births, marriages, deaths 1883 (with the exception that Jamburg refers to (p. 1-19) and Gdov refers to (p. 20-71)).
