Parish History[edit | edit source]

St Michael Coslany is an Ancient Parish in the city and Diocese of Norwich. It is sometimes abbreviated to St Miles particularly in old documents.

The building is in the care of the Norwich Historic Churches Trust and houses the Norwich Discovery Centre, a science museum for schoolchildren and adult visitors.

Baptisms 1558-1903 are of particular interest for  some family baptisms for Harper and Peckover.

Mallett, B. Which Was His Father. History and Family tree of Nicholas Mallett and Susanna Salmon,at St. Gregory, Norwich 1748, and his 2nd marriage to Sara Field at Coslany in 1777.The surnames included on the tree are Sayer, Mason, Evans, Waters-Leaving, dated from 1748 - 1963. The 2nd Family tree chart is of Nicholas Mallett marrying 1607 to Joan Wesbye 1602, at St Peter Parmentergate, his 2nd marriage to Elizabeth Hatley at All Saints, Norwich, 1627, with the following surnames, Offord, Smith, Lusher, Bullock, Giles, Glover and Tills, dated from  1607-1717.
