History[edit | edit source]
Nevada was included in the Northwestern Territory of New Spain under the Spanish Empire in the 18th century. In 1804, when the Californias split, Nevada was included in Alta California. When Mexico won its independence from Spain in 1821, Alta California became a territory of Mexico. In 1848, with the Treaty of Guadalupe Hildalgo, Alta California became part of the United States.[1]
