What is in This Collection?[edit | edit source]

This collection contains vital records (civil registration) from the Republic of Kiribati from 1890-1991. Kiribati consists of three island groups: Gilbert Islands, Phoenix Islands, and Line Islands. Prior to independence from the United Kingdom in 1979, it was divided into six districts:

  • Banaba
  • North Gilbert Islands
  • Central Gilbert Islands
  • South Gilbert Islands
  • Line Islands
  • Tarawa Atoll

  • Some persons in the Gilbert Islands have only one name, so you may need to look for family members
