King George County is located in the Northeastern portion of the Commonwealth of Virginia on the Rappahannock River. It was named for King George I[1].

The county is named after King George I of Great Britain (1660-1727).

Record Loss[edit | edit source]
Many courthouse loose papers from prior to 1830 are missing. Bound volumes of deeds, orders, and wills still exist.[5]

Baptist[edit | edit source]
10,000 name petition (dated: 16 October 1776) signed by Baptists and Baptist sympathizers from all over Virginia, asking for an end to persecution of Baptists by the established church.
