What is in This Collection?[edit | edit source]
This collection will include records from 850 to 2012. These records are in Japanese. See the For Help Reading These Records section of this article for translation tools.
This is a collection of Japanese clan genealogies from Japan. The records are arranged by family. Dates and localities will vary for each record depending on the family. Records of this collection are from Ehime Prefectural Library and Iwate Prefectural Library. Some records are Japanese clan genealogies from Okinawa prefecture.
Some families have genealogies detailing pedigrees back to medieval times, listing descent from notable individuals.
Image Visibility[edit | edit source]
Whenever possible FamilySearch makes images and indexes available for all users. However, rights to view these data are limited by contract and subject to change. Because of this there may be limitations on where and how images and indexes are available or who can see them. Please be aware some collections consist only of partial information indexed from the records and do not contain any images.

How Do I Search This Collection?[edit | edit source]
To begin your search, it would be helpful if you knew the following information:
- Ancestors name
- Approximate year and place of birth

View images in this collection by visiting the Browse Page:
- Select Family Name (姓)
- Select Country (国)
- Select Prefecture (都道府県)
- Select County or City (郡又は市)
- Select Town and Village (町又は村)
- Select Title (題名), Volume (巻) or Page (頁), and Year (年) to view the images.

How Do I Analyze the Results?[edit | edit source]
Compare each result from your search with what you know to determine if there is a match. This may require viewing multiple records or images. Keep track of your research in a research log.

I Found the Person I Was Looking For, What Now?[edit | edit source]
- Use the information to search other records
- Collect entries for every person who has the same family name, unless the name is a common name. This list can help you identify possible relatives that can be verified by records
I Can’t Find the Person I’m Looking For, What Now?[edit | edit source]
- Use the estimated age to calculate a birth date
- Look at all entries for a name before deciding which is correct
- Check for variant spellings of any names
- Titles may be clues to property ownership, occupations, rank, or status within the community
