Hagerstown is a city in Washington County and is the County Seat. It is also the largest city in a region known as Western Maryland and has also been recognized as Cumberland Valley. Johanthan Hager founded this community in 1762. Orginally named Elizabeth-Town for Jonathan Hager's wife, the Maryland Legislature passed a law in 1814 renaming Elizabeth-Town "Hager's-Town."[1]
