Geographic Location[edit | edit source]

Defined by the Farmington River, which runs through it, the Farmington River Valley is found along the westernmost boundary of Hartford County in Connecticut. It borders Litchfield County to the west. The valley is composed of floodplains and lowlands with the Litchfield Hills to the west, and the Talcott mountain on the east.

It was an important migratory route during the early years of Connecticut's settlement because it offered an easy means of travel, both by walking on the relatively flat ground and by using the river as a means of transport. Several towns are located in the valley:

  • Farmington
  • Avon
  • Canton
  • Simsbury
  • Gransby
