  • In this place existed an old indigenous town, of the nation pazioca. In 1592 the Spanish conquistador Juan Ramírez de Velazco arrived, seeking "the gold of Famatina". Currently the majority of its population is Creole, with the remaining population of European origin.
  • The department of Famatina has a population of approximately 6,000 people.[1]
