Chuuk was one of six districts of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands which were administered by the United States under charter from the United Nations from the end of the Second World War to the mid-1980s. The Federated States of Micronesia, including Chuuk, was established in 1979 and signed a Compact of Free Association with the U.S. that became effective November 3, 1986.

  • Birth, marriage and death records are kept at the Court and Hospital in Moen.
  • Birth and death records from the Trust Territory Archives (1800-1986) are on microfilm at the United States National Archives, the University of Hawaii, Manoa, Pacific Collection and the National Archives of the FSM at Palikir, Pohnpei.
  • Currently being digitized by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
