  • The town was founded on July 6, 1573 under the name of Córdoba de la Nueva Andalucía.
  • In 1806, during the English Invasions, the Viceroy Rafael de Sobremonte returned to Córdoba where he established the interim capital of the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata. In twenty days he gathered an important contingent and sent him to Montevideo to repel the invasion in that city, an objective not achieved.
  • The department of Capital has a population of approximately 1,400,000 people. [1]
