  • On August 12, 1872 Canillá was part of the new department of Quiché and has remained there since then.
  • On March 21, 1893, Canillá was elevated to the category of municipality.
  • Canillá was suppressed on August 26, 1936 and annexed as a village of San Andrés Sajcabajá.
  • It was restored as a municipality on November 13, 1951.
  • The municipality of Canillá has a population of approximately 9,000 people[1]
