French Colonization (1919-1960)[edit | edit source]
Originally called Upper Volta. Established as a colony of French West Africa in 1919, which was dissolved in 1932. Following WWII, the colony was restored as part of the French Union. In 1960, Upper Volta gained its independence. The country was renamed Burkina Faso in 1984.
