The parish of Bournemouth St Stephen was created in 1882 from a division of Bournemouth St Peter, in part to carry on the Anglo-Catholic tradition of Alexander Morden Bennett, first vicar of St.Peter's who died in 1880.
Originally within the county of Hampshire, the parish was moved to Dorset as a result of the reorganisation of local government in 1974
