Blekinge officially became part of the kingdom of Denmark in the early 11th century, likely 1026 AD. It ceded to Sweden in 1658, according to the Treaty of Roskilde. It has stayed as a jurisdiction of Sweden ever since. Blekinge became a county (called Blekinge County) in 1683. The population of Blekinge was roughly 152,300 people in 2012.
