The German state of Baden-Württenberg was created in 1945 by merging the German Empire states of Baden, Württemberg, and Hohenzollern. When searching in the FamilySearch Library catalog, use the German Empire state name, as that catalog was organized by place names in the 1871 Meyers gazetteer.
Grave Management[edit | edit source]
For German gravesites, it is quite common that after a specific period of time, the graves are reused for others and the previously interred person's remains and gravestone are removed. If you know an ancestors' burial place and the grave has been vacated, the local administration (Bürgerservice, Friedhofsverwaltung) usually has a record of an ancestor's grave.
